You guys. I just found an AWESOME deal. Last week I finished up the last bit of a large tub of coconut oil while making my Wild Rose goat’s milk soap.
It always seems that just as I begin to start seeing some good profit from my Dandelion’s Acre product sales, it’s time to buy materials to make more! And folks, let me tell ya, ingredients aren’t cheap. Now don’t get me wrong- they’re worth it, every penny, because of the incredible soaps and lotions and salves they turn out- but economical they are not. Usually. Until I stumble upon a deal like this that is, which doesn’t happen very often. I always shop around when it comes to ordering supplies because although I’d like to say I’m loyal to a single company, I can’t afford to be. So whoever has the best deal at the time, wins. Tonight it was Amazon. And I want to share this deal with you:
That’s a full gallon of refined coconut oil (refined means it won’t leave you with a coconut smell or taste in your food or products) for $18.79 shipped! (for Prime members) That’s honestly the best deal I’ve seen in a while on coconut oil. The company that I usually go with (because they normally have the cheapest prices) are charging $23.95 for a gallon of NON organic refined coconut oil PLUS shipping would be an additional $13.95- for a total of $36.90!
Now I know that free shipping deals can be found around if you purchase mega bulk sizes, however, I don't really have a place to store mega bulk sizes of the several ingredients I use (hello eight children), and I found this deal to be comparable if not a better price per ounce than those extra large sizes anyway.
Now that I’m writing this, I think I’ll go back and order another gallon to cook with, actually.
Refined coconut oil is great to cook with because it contains a high concentration of medium-chain saturated fatty acids like caprylic acid and lauric acid. In other words, it won’t raise your cholesterol or clog your arteries like typical vegetable oils. It’s also been known to fight inflammation caused by polyunsaturated fatty acids, not to mention it cooks and fries foods great! These fats are also easily digested. They also put up a powerful fight against pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungal infections. And with refined coconut oil, you won’t impart a coconut flavor to everything you cook. I like coconut, but not in my scrambled eggs.
However, if you are a purist and must have unrefined “virgin” coconut oil, I also found an incredible deal on that:
$33.95! The next lowest price I found for a gallon of Organic, Virgin, Unrefined Coconut Oil was $66.49 with some prices into the $100’s! So this is also a great deal. And after reading the reviews I’m convinced it’s also a quality product. I like a tablespoon of the virgin stuff in my coffee, or smoothies, so a little goes a long way for me. I won’t be needing a gallon of it. But some people prefer to use it (as I would refined coconut oil) in place of butter, oils, margarine, and/or vegetable shortening.
If you’re unfamiliar with all the benefits of coconut oil, I urge you to do some research. Here’s a good place to start: Yahoo-Coconut Oil
